Highlights of the day: Matchday 9

Take a look back on the most exciting gameplay that led to all six KO Stage qualifiers being revealed

Juventus (1-0 / 3-2) Manchester United FC

Starting Juventus off on the right foot, the Italian club captain ETTORITO97 scored the first and only goal of the game in minute 10’, securing the first three points of the match as well as his club’s advancement into the Knockout Stage.

Game 2 started with another Juventus lead, featuring a first shot by IL DISTRUTTORE44 in minute 47’ and two additional goals by his teammate LoScandalo in minutes 52’ and 64’. While Manchester United FC youngster Ostrybuch achieved back-to-back shots in minutes 75’ and 86’ bringing the English squad closer to an equalizer, it wasn’t enough to take the win from Juventus and ultimately took Manchester out of the running for advancement.

Galatasaray SK (1-3 / 0-1) FC Barcelona

THE PALMA started off the Blaugrana club with a lead before the game reached its tenth minute. While Turkish club rookie Kruji helped his team avoid a shutout loss with Galatasaray SK’s only goal of the matchday in minute 15’, the Barça captain completed his hat trick with two more successful shots in a row in minutes 39’ and 42’.

The second game’s outcome was determined by a single goal, made in minute 63’ by THE PALMA. His 14th and final shot of the Regular Season won FC Barcelona the final three points of the match, as well as a secured position in the Knockout Stage.

AS Roma (2-0 / FC Schalke 04)

Although AS Roma already had a secured path to the Knockout Stage, KEPA continued his club’s success with back-to-back goals in minutes 71’ and 74’ to achieve the Italian team’s first win of the day.

An early own goal by S-Venom in minute 6’ gave FC Schalke 04 the lead for almost the entire game. They comfortably maintained this lead until AS Roma captain RoksaCzv22 stole the win away from the German trio with a successful free kick in minute 90+1’, leaving Schalke dependent on the results of the following fixtures to determine their chance of advancement.

AS Monaco (0-1 / 1-2) FC Bayern München

An own goal made by Monegasque club representative Lotfi ended up being the sole ball in the net during Game 1 in the second to last fixture of the Regular Season. The play, in addition to skilled defending by FC Bayern München’s trio, earned the German club the first three points.

JOSE brought FC Bayern München ahead in Game 2 by minute 14’, with the shot that made him the only player in the league to score in every matchday of the 2020-21 season. Usmakabyle equalized the scoreboard for AS Monaco in minute 72’, but Alex Alguacil’s last minute goal in 90’ secured the full six points for his club.

Arsenal FC (1-1 / 0-1) Celtic FC

With the Gunners entering Matchday 9 needing only one point, barboza’s goal in minute 17’ was a crucial step towards success for the English team. Although PataNegra7 put a goal on the scoreboard for Celtic FC in minute 72’, a tied result was all Arsenal FC needed to qualify for the Knockout Stage.

The final fixture of the 2020-21 Regular Season included a single goal, achieved by Scottish club captain Jorcha in minute 62’. The shot earned Celtic FC four points, lifting them out of the last place rank, as well as officially qualifying FC Schalke 04 for the final spot in the top six positions on the league table.
