PREVIEW: Matchday 3 presents many opportunities for teams to get ahead

As teams move into the third matchday of the eFootball.Pro IQONIQ season, they all look to advance on the league table

eFootball.Pro IQONIQ is set to broadcast Matchday 3 live on Saturday, January 30th at 13:00 CET. With a maximum of three points separating the top seven teams on the league table, and five of them all at six points, the competition is open to all competitors hoping for advancement in the league rankings

Arsenal FC vs. Manchester United FC

Although the current Arsenal FC roster didn’t play together as a trio last season, all three of the players faced Manchester United FC in the 2019-20 season. While representing Celtic FC, INDOMINATOR and INDOJAWA competed against the English squad in Matchday 3, and the brothers were also both able to score a cumulative three goals against their opponents. While Boavista FC didn’t reach their matchup against Manchester United FC in the Regular Season, barboza did have the chance to play them in Day 1 of the Group Stage in the eFootball.Pro Cup, which was won by the English team. The two captains, INDOMINATOR and E_C_Oneill, were teammates in the first season of the competition representing Celtic FC. This matchup  between the two English clubs features all of the Dutch players in the league, including E_C_Oneill, INDOJAWA, and INDOMINATOR. Only two points separate these clubs in the rankings, with Manchester United FC at 8 points and Arsenal FC at 6.

Juventus vs. AS Roma

This is the first time the all Italian matchup has taken place in eFootball.Pro IQONIQ. While none of the AS Roma representatives faced the Juventus trio in the 2019-20 Regular Season, S-Venom had the opportunity in Day 1 of the eFootball.Pro Cup while representing Arsenal FC, where the Italian club managed a shutout victory of 0-4. KEPA and RoksaCzv22 were set to compete against them in Matchday 9 of the previous season, which was postponed indefinitely. Roma’s RoksaCzv22 and Juventus’ LoScandalo are currently tied for second highest goal scorer at 5 goals, alongside AS Monaco’s Kilzyou. Juventus and AS Roma are both entering the competition with six points on the league table, each team only three points away from the first ranking club.

AS Monaco vs. FC Barcelona

As AS Monaco and FC Barcelona look towards the upcoming Matchday 3, AS Monaco has a point to prove after last facing the Blaugrana squad in the fifth matchday of the 2019-20 season. It was in this match that the Monegasque trio were defeated for their first time out of ten games that season, in the second game (2-4). Two of the goals scored during this impressive matchday for Barcelona were by the team captain himself, THE PALMA. While ALEX GRD didn’t represent FC Barcelona last season, he still faced AS Monaco while playing for Arsenal FC. Monaco was victorious in both games against the English team, but ALEX GRD still managed to achieve two goals against them. This fixture features the two award recipients of Matchday 1, with Usmakabyle as the MVP winner and ALEXR with the best goal. The two clubs sit only two rankings apart on the league table, with AS Monaco in first and FC Barcelona in third.

FC Schalke 04 vs. Galatasaray SK

This matchup will be the first time Galatasaray SK players will be facing a fellow eFootball.Pro IQONIQ rookie, FC Schalke 04’s Urma. The past two matchdays they competed against Manchester United FC and Juventus, two teams that feature returning lineups from the 2019-20 season. Although it is early in their first season, Urma, as well as Turkish team representatives StavAttack and Djibrilliant, all recorded their first career goals of the season in Matchday 2, setting the stage for more skilled gameplay moving forward in the competition. With FC Schalke 04’s impressive Game 2 victory against their German opponents in Matchday 2, they have earned themselves six points over the past two matchdays and a spot alongside four other elite clubs all with the same amount. With two ties and two losses so far, Galatasaray SK looks to accomplish their first victory in eFootball.Pro IQONIQ.

Celtic FC vs. FC Bayern München

The 2019-20 season’s schedule had Celtic FC and FC Bayern München set to face off in Matchday 9, which was postponed indefinitely, meaning the German club representatives not only have yet to face newcomers PataNegra7 and umbee96_, but Celtic captain Jorcha as well. He was tied for third highest goal scorer of the previous season, and also earned himself the MVP award of Matchday 5. Taking his accomplishments into consideration, with fellow teammate umbee96_ scoring his first goal of the season in Matchday 2 and the unknown nature of the Scottish club for FC Bayern München, it will be an interesting match. While the two clubs are closely ranked with Bayern in 8th place and Celtic in 10th, they still have four points separating them on the table as both clubs hope to rise into a Knockout Stage qualifying rank.
